Sand in the City is an annual event that features one of the Northwest's most prestigious sand sculpting competitions, interactive science exhibits, live entertainment and more! This Portland family favorite benefits the youth programming of Impact NW, especially the Kids on the Block Awareness Program.

Yoshida's Sand in the City benefits Impact Northwest, a local Portland nonprofit that aims to help people achieve and maintain self sufficiency and alleviate the effects of poverty in our community.

On Saturday, April 25th, Wallace Park came alive with music, food, and family-friendly fun. People ccould learn about environmental organizations, natural healing practices, and local sustainable businesses. The music of Alpaca, Taproot, Off the Grid, Sweet Home String Band, Fruition String Band, Sara Tone, and Hijinks entertained people for the day. The Earth Day event was coordinated by the City Repair Project, and sponsored by Food Front Cooperative Grocery, Lewis & Clark College, the National College of Natural Medicine, KBOO Community Radio, the ReDirect Guide, and Legacy Health Systems.

A New Way Forward is made up of national protests that took place all over the country in major cities on April 11, 2009. These are photos from the protest that took place in Portland.

"It's not enough to patch up the current system. We need to restrict the ways that bankers can lobby and serve in the government. We need to prohibit compensation plans that encourages huge short-term risk. We have to break up any bank that's "too big to fail" so that we can have a functional free market.

Oregon Election Night 2008

These are photos from Election Night at the Oregon Convention Center. Candidates from the Oregon Democratic Party swept all government offices. By the next morning, Jeff Merkley defeated Republican Incumbent Gordon Smith.

It is called the Tour de Fat, an annual event that tours 11 western cities spreading the good word about the positive societal offerings of the bicycle. I was going through my photo files and found this. I took this picture in August 2005 at a POW WOW put on by the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board. The Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board brought a traditional Native American POW WOW to Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland to educate the public on the Native American's health status in the US. The Event included Native American Drummers and performances by dancers of all ages.

Sand in the City

This years annual Sand in the City was a Benefit for Kids on the Block. Kids on the Block uses the power of puppetry to inspire children to appreciate differences, say no to all forms of prejudice, and develop skills to grow up healthy and safe. protesting the columbia river crossing (crc)

The Oil Enforcement Agency (OEA) was operating a check point outside today's Portland City Council meeting. The OEA attempted to ticket supporters of the Columbia River Crossing (CRC) for their advocacy of oil abuse. Present was also a cult of pro-bridge oil-worshippers, complete with a 12 foot tall mock oil derrick.
